The Tata Group Launches Tata Neu, Its Own Super App

Tata Group officially launched its much-anticipated super app, Tata Neu, for the general public on Thursday, April 7, after multiple delays. The software was previously available for free on the Google Play and Apple App Stores, but access was limited to Tata corporate members and only through referrals. Now, everyone can access the service by downloading the app or visiting the website and logging in using their phone number and OTP.

The company’s new app is expected to provide consumers with a one-stop-shop for all of their digital needs, including shopping, travel, payments, and more. Tata Digital, the Tata Group’s digital arm, has been working for months to create this super app, which can be defined as India’s first, in order to improve its position in the country’s $ 55 billion e-commerce market. The 154-year-old business has entered industries like payments, online food delivery, investing, and more through its app.

Let’s get started with the basics of this newly launched super app – Tata Neu.

What exactly is Tata Neu?

The Tata Group owns a number of other brands around the world, and the Tata Neu platform, built by Tata Digital, aims to bring them all together in one place. This means that the app will give users access to all of Tata’s services and businesses, such as Chrome, BigBasket, 1mg, Air Asia, and others.

Tata Neu - Super App

Its goal is to provide its consumers with a wonderful shopping experience. It gives users an unparalleled level of variety and choice by combining the Tata group’s most trusted brands into a single, easy platform. The Tata Neu super app “seamlessly blends product commerce, service commerce, and financial services into a consumer-first, future-ready, integrated experience,” Tata Digital said in a statement.

Tata Pay and Tata Neu Rewards

Tata Pay, a UPI-based payment system similar to Amazon Pay, GPay, or BHIM, was also launched. This service, which operates similarly to the other UPI payment apps, allows users to send money, make payments using a phone number, or scan a QR code.

For retaining customers, the all-in-one app will include a loyalty program – Neu Coins. According to the website, each brand on Tata Neu is “connected by a common reward called NeuCoins, which can be earned across all brands online and at physical locations and can be used similarly as well.” Every time a buyer makes a purchase on the platform, they will receive ‘NeuCoins.’ NeuCoins will be equal to the rupee (1 NeuCoin = Re 1), according to the app, and can be used as currency when making purchases.

What is NeuPass?

NeuPass is a premium membership service that works similarly to Amazon Prime or Flipkart Plus. It’s in the ‘Coming Soon’ stage right now. The app, on the other hand, indicates that members will receive additional prizes and privileges.

Are there other successful super apps in India?

Several major internet giants, like Amazon, Paytm, Flipkart, and Reliance Jio, have developed their own super apps, which offer a variety of services such as payments, multimedia streaming, shopping, travel bookings, and grocery, among others.

Fintech, social applications, grocery, and ride-hailing companies – all are attempting to become an all-in-one platform. Users may now access a variety of apparently unrelated services in one location on their mobile phones, rather than having to rely on various apps for different services. The goal is to make it as simple as possible for users to use a single login for all of their needs. These platforms are being envisioned as virtual malls all around the world, and different geographies are reacting to the trend in different ways.

Why are Companies willing to build Super Apps in India?

When a big portion of a country’s population uses a smartphone first rather than a PC, the country or region becomes super app-ready. India has already established itself as a market where the bulk of those who are using the internet for the first time are making transactions on their mobile phones.

One of the key reasons why Indian corporations are interested in developing super apps is because of this. Apart from enhanced revenue realisation due to the consolidation of services into a single location, such applications also provide businesses with enormous swaths of consumer data that can be used to learn more about user behaviour.

Conclusion

Tata Neu is likely to give the Indian conglomerate additional leverage against established competitors such as Amazon, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance, and Walmart-owned Flipkart.

Furthermore, in a country like India, customer trust is critical, particularly in online areas, where people are already suspicious of online scams. This gives Tata the advantage as it is considered to be one of the most reliable and trusted companies in India. Tata will see unprecedented levels of digital transformation as a result of its entry into the super app business, which will be largely affected by the customer.
